What is each of the units about?

Unit T1, T2 & T3 : Understanding Computer Systems: Components, Devices, and Storage

In this unit, your child will gain a comprehensive understanding of computer systems by exploring their components, input and output devices, and storage solutions. They will learn about the essential parts of computers, how various devices interact with them, and how data is stored and managed across different media.

These skills are vital for effectively using and managing technology in daily life, from choosing and maintaining hardware to handling data securely. This knowledge is applicable in many tech-related careers and practical situations.

Unit P18 & P13: Mastering Presentation and Document Production

In this unit, your child will acquire practical skills in designing effective presentations and producing professional documents using Word. They will learn how to create impactful presentations and format documents with a professional layout, enhancing their ability to communicate and present information clearly.

These skills are crucial for creating clear, professional presentations and documents in various career settings. Mastery in these areas will boost their ability to effectively share ideas and produce high-quality content

Unit T4, T5 & T6: Exploring Networks, IT Effects, and ICT Applications

In this unit, your child will explore the key concepts of computer networks, their impact, and the broader effects of using information technology. They will examine how networks operate and their implications, understand the effects of IT on society, and learn about various ICT applications and their practical uses.

Understanding these concepts equips students with insights into how technology impacts daily life and society. This knowledge is essential for making informed decisions about technology use and recognizing its effects on both personal and professional environments.

Unit P9, P10, P11 & P20: Effective Communication and Advanced Spreadsheet Skills

In this unit, your child will develop essential practical skills, with a strong emphasis on advanced spreadsheet techniques, alongside understanding audience needs, effective communication, and file management. They will learn to create and manage complex spreadsheets, organize files efficiently, and tailor communication to different audiences.

Proficiency in spreadsheets is crucial for data analysis and organization in many professional roles. Combined with skills in communication and file management, this unit prepares students to excel in managing information and presenting data effectively in various real-world scenarios.

What software do I need to install on my device?

Students should bring their own laptops to lesson with them. These can be either Windows or Mac OS based machines. Apple or Android tablets are not suitable for this course.
