What is each of the units about?
Unit 7: The System Lifecycle
This unit introduces students to the stages of the system development lifecycle (SDLC), from identifying a need through to system evaluation. Students will learn about each phase, including analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. They will also explore how users interact with new systems and the importance of thorough documentation and testing in ensuring successful system deployment.
With this knowledge, students will be able to understand the structured approach to developing and implementing IT systems. They will gain skills in problem analysis, solution design, and testing, enabling them to contribute to the planning and development of IT projects in real-world scenarios.
Unit 8,9,10 & 11 Safety, security, communication and file management
This unit covers key aspects of using digital technologies safely and effectively. Students will learn about online safety, data security, and strategies for protecting personal and sensitive information. They will also explore how to tailor communication to different audiences, utilizing various digital tools and platforms to share information effectively. Additionally, the unit focuses on the organization and management of digital files, emphasizing the importance of clear file structures and backup strategies.
With this knowledge, students will be equipped to use digital technologies responsibly, ensuring their data and communications are secure. Unit 12,13,14 &15 Document Design and Accuracy
This unit focuses on creating and refining digital documents with attention to visual elements, structure, and accuracy. Students will learn how to manipulate images for different purposes, design effective layouts for various types of documents, apply consistent styles to enhance readability and appearance, and utilize proofing tools to ensure accuracy in their work. The unit emphasizes the importance of visual communication and professional presentation in digital media.
With this knowledge, students will develop the skills to produce visually appealing and well-structured digital documents. What software do I need to install on my device?
Students should bring their own laptops to lesson with them. These can be either Windows or Mac OS based machines. Apple or Android tablets are not suitable for this course.
