Welcome to KS3 Design & Technology!
Design & Technology is a dynamic and creative subject where students learn to combine creativity with practical skills to solve real-world problems. At KS3, this is the first opportunity for pupils to experience the subject, and our curriculum is built around the four key strands of the National Curriculum:
-
Design – developing imaginative ideas and innovative solutions in response to given contexts.
-
Make – applying practical skills with accuracy using a variety of tools, materials, and digital technologies.
-
Evaluate – analysing and refining work through testing, feedback, and reflection.
-
Technical Knowledge – building an understanding of materials, processes, systems, sustainability, and the impact of design in society.
Through engaging projects, students learn to generate and communicate ideas, create prototypes, and refine their work through an iterative design process. This balance of creativity and technical understanding helps students to think critically, take risks, and develop confidence in their problem-solving abilities.
By the end of KS3, students will have built a strong foundation in Design & Technology, giving them the skills and knowledge to progress successfully into GCSE study and beyond.

Assessment | Date |
---|---|
3D Printing & CAD | 17/11/25 |
Pizza Cutter Project | 23/02/26 |

What software do I need to install on my device?
Students should bring their own laptops to lesson with them. These can be either Windows or Mac OS based machines. Apple or Android tablets make 3D CAD modelling more challenging and therefore are a less favourable option.
