Welcome to Mathematics

Welcome to The British International School Maths Department!

We take great pride in our commitment to providing an outstanding mathematics education for your children. Our dedicated team of educators is excited and ready to inspire a love for math, nurture critical thinking skills, and foster a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

Mathematics serves various essential aims and plays a fundamental role in our lives, society, and the world at large. Here are some of the key aims of mathematics that our Year 7 Mathematicians will explore:

  1. Quantification: Mathematics allows us to quantify and measure various aspects of our world. It enables precise measurement of quantities such as length, time, mass, and volume, which is crucial in fields like physics, engineering, and economics.
  2. Problem Solving:  Mathematics equips individuals with critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations, break them down into manageable components, and develop solutions.
  3. Modeling and Prediction: Mathematics is used to create models and simulations that represent real-world systems. These models help scientists, engineers, and decision-makers make predictions, test hypotheses, and make informed choices.

Our current learning

This term, we will consider the fundamentals in different areas of mathematics, such as Number, Algebra and Geometry. A considerable emphasis is on consolidating knowledge learnt in primary years as they set the stage for more advanced mathematical concepts. As you continue to learn and explore these topics, do not hesitate to seek clarification and practice problems to solidify your understanding. Mathematics is a subject where practice and persistence lead to mastery, and it can be a rewarding and empowering journey.
