There will be one formal assessment in Term 2 for English. The exact dates will be communicated three weeks prior to each assessment and this will be after the February break. In addition to class materials provided by teachers, students are advised to use the following resources to prepare for their assessment and unit of work they have been studying this term.
There will be ongoing formative assessment in individual classes this half term with a focus on rhetoric and oracy. Year 8 students will be working on a speech that is then performed to their class on an issue that has been covered in this unit. Writing and reading skills will still be covered in class and in exercise books and will be given feedback as an ongoing formative assessment.
Revision and Preparation:
1) Read and revise over the classwork/tasks within your exercise book to remind you of the success criteria and expectations of this assessment. The Assessment Objective overview document is here:
2) At the beginning of the year, all Year 8 students were given a purple CGP revision book. If students wish to complete independent study to support the work that is ongoing in class, then they should use the sheet below. The page numbers and titles that are pertinent to the curriculum during half term 3 are detailed below.
3) KS3 English Literacy Booklet
This booklet breaks down the analytical skills and includes specific, deliberate practice of these skills that are useful not just for assessments but for student's English skills and knowledge too. This is key for consistent understanding of how to make progress.
