Biology Revision

On this page, you will find resources to support your revision in your end of topic assessments, and in the end of year exam.

Revision Strategies

Revision is more useful the more active you are. Reading over notes or revision guides can be helpful, but interacting with the information is even better!

Being specific is also smart. Use your checklist to identify the topics you feel less confident with, and study those.

You could:

  • make revision notes
  • make flashcards
  • make mind maps

Once you have learned the material, it's a good idea to test how well you understand it. That's where past paper questions come in. Whether you do these under test conditions or with the support of your notes it totally up to you. However, you should spend almost as much time marking your practice questions as you spend answering them! Read the mark scheme carefully, see what they accept and what they don't. A large part of GCSE success is good exam techniques and knowing what examiners are looking for.

There are loads of useful websites to help with revision too.

  • Quizlet is great for making online flashcards
  • Seneca Learning tells you the content and then makes you interact with it by asking you questions
  • Physicsandmathstutor has past paper questions (make sure you are using Edexcel IGCSE 9-1 questions)
  • SaveMyExams also has past paper questions (make sure you are using Edexcel IGCSE 9-1 questions)
  • Science with Hazel videos on youtube are great for explanations as are freesciencelessons.co.uk
  • Cognito and Fuse are excellent resource which revise biological concepts in short animated clips - use these to quickly revise topics!

All classes will be assessed at the end of every subunit.

The checklist below shows all criteria that may be included in the test. CPG Revision guide pages are provided as well!

The revision Past Paper questions above will be provided (as usual) as a homework booklet. Please use the mark schemes or worked answers on OneNote to mark your work carefully, seeing where you went wrong, and how to avoid doing the same again in the future!

Term 1a: Characteristics of Living Things

Term 1b: Transport and Respiration

Term 2a: Photosynthesis and Gas Exchange

Term 2b: Plant Transport and Tropisms
