Recommended Home Learning
Reading is paramount for your success in English as it serves as a gateway to knowledge and intellectual growth. Through reading, you not only acquire information but also hone essential skills such as critical thinking, analysis, and comprehension. Exposure to diverse genres and perspectives expands your worldview and helps to foster empathy. Moreover, a robust reading habit enhances vocabulary, language proficiency, and communication skills, which are all vital in academic and real-world scenarios. In essence, reading lays the foundation for a well-rounded education, empowering students to navigate the complexities of an ever evolving global landscape.
Therefore, our recommended English home learning is to read for 45 minutes per week. You can read a genre, author, or text type of your choosing, but making reading habitual is key for long-term academic success.
You will record, and summarise your reading on Firefly each week.
Further Activities (Optional)
If you would like to do more to develop your English skills then you can answer some of the below questions during each week of reading. Submit your answers alongside your summaries so your teacher can see your responses.
What do you think is the central theme or idea in the pages you have read?
How is a key character presented in the pages you have read?
How is the setting important in the pages you have read?
In the pages you have read, has the writer used any symbols or motifs for a specific reason?
To reduce screentime, we recommend you read a physical book rather than ebooks from a device.
You can take advantage of the books available in our library and can regularly change your books during your timetabled library lessons.
Goodreads UK also has a suggested reading list for KS3 students and can be found on the link below. These books can be purchased online if suitable.
