Mock Information and Checklist
In November, you will sit a full Paper 1 for Chemistry. All students will complete the same paper.
A revision checklist can be found here (this includes all content that could be in the mock exam):
New! Resources for the past paper that you have received in class since half term are below!
Pre Half Term Resources:
In class, you will be provided with a whole paper 1 to practice. Please note - we haven't finished the entire course yet, so you might not have covered everything required for Q3 and Q5 yet. Either you can leave these blank, or you can use your revision guide to help you attempt these questions. The mark scheme is provided below. Worked answers and an analysis sheet are provided to help you with the marking and to identify weaker areas and question types.
Below are two more papers with mark schemes that you can print at home and complete if you wish.
General Information
Please make sure you are referring to the Pearson International GCSE Chemistry (9-1) Specification when revising, and use it as a checklist to guide you through which areas you have covered, and where you have strengths and improvements to make.
What to bring to the exam
You will require a calculator, pens, pencils, eraser and a ruler for your chemistry exams.
Extra Reminders
*Please note, if you are doing Double Award Science, you will only sit Paper 1 for each science subject in the summer, and you do not need to study the bold statements in the specification at all.
* Please remember to keep dropping in to see your science teachers - we want to see you and want to help!
Good luck Chemists!
Revision Strategies
Revision is more useful the more active you are. Reading over notes or revision guides can be helpful, but interacting with the information is even better!
Being specific is also smart. Use your checklist to identify the topics you feel less confident with, and study those.
You could:
- make revision notes
- make flashcards
- make mindmaps
Once you have learned the material, it's a good idea to test how well you understand it. That's where past paper questions come in. Whether you do these under test conditions or with the support of your notes it totally up to you. However, you should spend almost as much time marking your practice questions as you spend answering them! Read the mark scheme carefully, see what they accept and what they don't. A large part of GCSE success is good exam techniques and knowing what examiners are looking for.
There are loads of useful websites to help with revision too.
- quizlet is great for making online flashcards
- Seneca Learning tells you the content and then makes you interact with it by asking you questions
- Physicsandmathstutor has past paper questions (make sure you are using Edexcel IGCSE 9-1 questions)
- SaveMyExams also has past paper questions (make sure you are using Edexcel IGCSE 9-1 questions)
- Science with Hazel videos on youtube are great for explanations
- YouTube channels such as Freesciencelessons (www.youtube.com/@Freesciencelessons)
- Revision websites such as Edexcel GCSE Science | Primrose Kitten
