English Literature

There will be two assessments in Term 2 for English, in addition to a number of 'mini assessments' that will be communicated by your class teacher given that your summer exams are fast approaching. The exact dates for formal assessments will be communicated three weeks prior to each assessment. In addition to class materials provided by teachers, students are advised to use the following resources to prepare for their assessment and unit of work they have been studying this term.

Students will be answering one essay question from a choice of two on Section B Anthology Poetry. This section of the exam requires students to have a thorough understanding of the main ideas of all 16 poems from the Edexcel Anthology and the linguistic and structural methods in each poem. This question is worth 30 marks in the exam and student's essays should establish clear arguments, use evidence to support views, and analyse the writer's methods for effect. The assessment will be taking place on Thursday 30th January 2025, period 3, and your English teacher will prepare you for this in advance of the assessment date.

Revision and Preparation:

1) Read and revise over the annotations you have made for the 16 poems in your Edexcel anthology. Remind yourself of the content, themes, linguistic and structural methods used by the writer and how these are effective in voicing the writer's perspectives. The guide below is effective in supporting you with revising the key aspects of each poem:

2) For further help and guidance on linguistic and structural techniques, use the handout below to remind you of what these are:

3) For guidance specifically on structuring a comparative response, use the planning document below:
